A Franklin County home became a deadly scene as firefighters battled an intense blaze that left one person dead on Sunday night, Jan. 20, authorities said.

Flames engulfed a single-story rancher along Warm Spring Road and Kittatinny Drive in Hamilton Township, Chambersburg, just after 8 p.m., according to the Franklin Fire Company.

Amid the chaos, firefighters from Engine 43 located an unconscious victim inside the burning home. While still battling the flames, they pulled the victim to safety, but despite EMS efforts, the person tragically succumbed to their injuries.

The inferno raged for nearly 45 minutes before being extinguished. Searches confirmed no additional victims, authorities said.

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the blaze.
